February 2020

February has rolled around and winter sports are starting to end. This issue we are taking a look back on the Indoor Track and Field season. This year’s team is made up of about 50 athletes competing in both track and field events. The season started off roughly for many athletes, as they recovered from various challenges. The team as a whole had a great season; athletes set new personal records at every meet and many set new school records: junior Carter in long jump, senior Shae in the 300m, and senior Tyree in shot put. The 4×2 relay team of Shae, senior Rachel, senior Charlotte, and junior Aryanna set the new school record.

Carter said his favorite memory from the season was “when I was able to jump for the first time after my injury,” a moment that compared only to  setting the school record for long jump. Shae said her favorite memory from the season was what happened on the bus before a meet, “We were going to Roberts Wesleyan and going 30 mph over a speed bump, then Dan said we had hit someone, and the whole bus broke into laughter.” Shae has been working at the school record for the 300m for a long two years. The whole team was extremely proud of her and shared the happiness, “After the race I collapsed to the ground, then started to cry, which never happens. I was so relieved that I finally reached my goal.” Another senior who had a great season was Karrina. She had a lot of great memories too, “My favorite memory  was when I was throwing outdoors and fell right on my face, trying to be a pro. In all seriousness, winning the League Championships is also a favorite memory.” In particular, we want to recognize the 4×800 Relay Team for winning Sectionals- congratulations on your successful season, Mynderse Track and Field!
