Announcement: Regents 2020

Last updated on April 22, 2021

May 2020

By now, hopefully everyone is aware that this year’s New York State Regents exams have been cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This cancellation applies to both the June and August Regents. Fortunately, there won’t be any other requirements taking the place of the exams all students need to do is to pass the Regents class. The State Education Department assures us that credit towards graduation will still be gained so long as students continue to complete work. Governor Cuomo, along with his decision to order all New York State schools closed for the remainder of the school year, stated that a decision on whether students will have to attend summer school if they fail a class will be made by the end of May. Summer school may be virtual.

Our school district has released some other important information related to the exemptions, for example, since there are no number grades for exempted exams, they will not be included in Honors diploma calculations. Even though Regents are cancelled, do not take this as an opportunity to slack off in classes. Mrs. Lewis reminds students that they “need to be working at home on their schoolwork in order to be eligible to receive credit for the course.” If you are struggling, please reach out to a teacher or counselor.
