I absolutely LOVE eating. And I know you do too. But I DESPISE cleaning up. And I know you do too. So, I wanted to write this column just for lazy, impatient people like you and me. A column that will give you recipes for delicious treats that you can make under 5 minutes. These desserts will definitely satisfy that sweet tooth of yours!!

Let us start off with a perfect midnight snack: a fudgy chocolate mug cake. I love mug cakes because they are so simple to make and taste absolutely amazing. There are a large variety of different kinds, but my personal favorite would have to be this rich, chocolatey flavor. This recipe is from Preppy Kitchen and you can find their video at this link right here and their website here.

First and foremost, you need to prepare all your ingredients.

You will need:

¼ cup + 1 tbsp of all-purpose flour

¼ cup of sugar

¼ tsp of baking powder

1 pinch of salt

2 tbsp of cocoa powder

¼ cup of whole milk

2 tbsp of vegetable oil

1 tsp of vanilla extract.

Optional (flavor enhancers):

1 tbsp of coffee

2 tbsp of semi sweet chocolate chips

Now, here are the instructions for making the cake:

1) Sift the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder. Whisk these ingredients together to combine.

2) Add the milk, vanilla extract, oil, and coffee (optional) to the mixture and whisk until smooth.

3) Pour the batter into a mug and place the chocolate chips on top as needed.

4) Finally, microwave for 85 seconds and then you’re done!!

For those of you who are on a special diet, I have an alternative for the recipe we have just seen. It is a vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free chocolate brownie mug cake. This recipe is from Bigger Bolder Baking and you can find their video here and their website here

For one serving of this cake, you will need:

¼ cup of gluten free flour

¼ cup of sugar

2 tbsp of cocoa (natural, unsweetened)

¼ cup of coconut milk, 2 tbsp of coconut oil

Optional (for serving):

Coconut Ice Cream

Step-by-step instructions for preparing and baking:

1) Mix together your gluten free flour, sugar, and cocoa in a separate bowl

2) Add your coconut milk and coconut oil and mix the batter together

3) Place the batter into a mug of your choice and microwave for one minute or until the mixture is cooked through

4) Place your coconut ice cream on top (optional) and it is all set!!

My last recipe for today would be for some quick and easy donuts. They take little effort to cook and are quite yummy. This recipe is from Emma’s Goodies and you can find her video here

These donuts only require two ingredients:

140g of self rising flour (alternative- 140g of plain flour + 1 ½ tsp of baking powder/soda)

190g of plain yogurt (alternative- 112g of milk)

Instructions for making the donuts:

  1. Preheat oil in a pan to 320-330° fahrenheit (160-165.6° Celsius)
  2. Mix the flour and yogurt together to create your dough
  3. Transfer the dough into a piping bag with a rounded tip (or use a spoon) to place small, even amounts of dough into the hot oil
  4. Use a spatula to move the dough around in order to fry it evenly
  5. Cook until golden brown
  6. Place the donuts onto a paper towel and you are done

Methods for serving the donuts:

First method (sugared donut):

This is definitely the quickest serving option. All you have to do is toss them into plain sugar and coat them evenly. This makes a simple, yet delicious sugared donut.

Second method (glazed donut):

  1. Mix together:

⅔ stick of melted butter

2 cups of powdered sugar

3-4 tsp warm milk

1 tsp vanilla

  1. Place your donuts into the glaze and coat them as needed
  2. Use a slotted spoon to shake off any excess glaze to serve

Third method (chocolate glazed donut):

  1. Mix together:

⅔ stick of melted butter

2 cups of powdered sugar

3-4 tsp warm milk

1 tsp vanilla

Cocoa Powder (dependant on how much you desire)

  1. Place your donuts into the glaze and coat them as needed
  2. Use a slotted spoon to shake off any excess glaze to serve

Fourth method:

This last method is all up to you. Use your imagination to create some yummy and creative toppings for your 5 minute donuts!

I hope you had fun reading about these three fast and simple dessert recipes. The cakes and donuts are perfect for a late night snack or when you just want to treat yourself to a sweet pastry. They are incredibly tasty and I wanted to share them with my fellow lazy, impatient people!! Have fun making these 5 minute treats 🙂
